So, Deep Impact. Aside from being named after the superior-to-Armageddon-but-still-pretty-crappy movie, NASA has a neat mission ahead of them! There's something cool about an explosion equivalent to 5 tons of TNT in fuckin' outer space.
Apparently one of the motivations behind blowing this comet up (as if Space Boom wasn't motive enough) is so that when one of these NEOs, or Near Earth Objects, comes really Near Earth, we know more about its insides and therefore how to get rid of it before it hits.
I mean, I didn't like either of those movies so much, but really, if there's anything cooler than 5 tons of space TNT, it's probably saving the planet with 5 tons of space TNT.
