No, not Little Miss - this is the sci-fi thriller directed by Danny Boyle (28 Days Later) that was inexplicably released in Europe months before the U.S. Now I know how it is for them most of the time.
It was definitely worth the wait. The film has been compared to Alien, one of my favorite films, and not without good reason. Like Alien, it deals with a crew of about 7 inching their way toward some final destination in a bulky, slow moving ship. Their mission is to reignite the sun, which is flickering out of existence. They're all intelligent people, but in that kind of living environment, tempers flare, mistakes are made, and, well... you'll have to see it.
Aside from the Alien influence, there's definitely some 2001 in the crew's relationship with the main computer, as well as the general optimism and harmony with technology in the first third of the film or so. Finally, some 28 Days Later style action pervades the less-than-stellar (pun intended) finale.
Definitely recommended. It's great to see some well done, intelligent sci-fi out there. Not to mention, it features Hiroyuki Sanada, a graduate of Sonny Chiba's Japan Action Club!!
Wait, the Requiem for a Dream music? Again? Come on, people!
